NEXT MEETING: April 3rd at 7:30 p.m. at Glenview Mansion.

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT SUSAN SCHELLBERG

Greetings

Our March meeting was very enlightening. Carol Clatterbuck spoke on "Pricing Your Artwork". Her presentation incorporated many practical suggestions with a nice sprinkling of humor.

The presenter for our April meeting will be Jodi Walsh. Jodi has over 25 years experience in sales and marketing of her own work and assisting artists marketing their work into both corporate and residential markets. She is currently marketing director at the Zenith Gallery and former Director of the Artists’ Museum and APEX Gallery, Washington D.C. Jodi’s presentation is "Where and How to Sell your Artwork.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the Rockville Student Show. It was a big success and there was some very impressive artwork.

Just a reminder: The May juried show is fast approaching. Marian is going to need volunteers to help with the show and Sandra needs volunteers to help with refreshments for the opening. See all the information for the show in Marian’s report.

Also we are still looking for additional venues for continuing shows. Please contact Diane Jeang, continuing shows coordinator, if you know of any possible places.

Phil Bennett will be having a show in the conference rooms this month.

Susan Schellberg, President

QUOTE OF THE MONTH

"It doesn’t upset artists to find out that artists used lenses or mirrors or other aids, but it certainly does upset the art historians."

COUNTY BUDGET ADVOCACY – SAVE THE DATE – Thursday, April 10. Please save the date for our annual potluck supper for the County Council. Additional instructions on what to bring and directions to the Council building will be distributed as we get closer to the date. The potluck will be our opportunity to meet with the Council members in an informal setting to talk about the budget for arts and humanities for the upcoming fiscal year. The County Executive’s Recommended Budget will be published by March 15 and the County Council will hold public hearings on that budget before adopting the final budget. After the Executive’s budget is published, our advocacy committee will develop a position on the Executive’s budget. On April 10, we ask you to be an advocate for the arts and humanities to promote this position. Please plan to arrive between 5:30 and 6:00 pm. The Council members will be invited for 6:00 pm and the public hearing will begin at 7:00 pm. We would like for you to stay as long as you can. If you have any questions, please call Fran Abrams at 301-565-3805 or send her e-mail at grants@creativemoco.com.

On March 4, the Montgomery County Council approved the second half of the $4 million in County funds needed to make the Fillmore Music Hall in downtown Silver Spring a reality. What remains on the funding is for the State of Maryland to OK the final $2 million of their $4 million contribution to the project, which is in the Governor's recommended capital budget. The funding is a unanimous funding priority of County Executive Isiah Leggett and the County Council. Contact your state legislators now to urge their approval of these funds which will...

* Bring world-class music in a range of musical styles and formats, enriching Silver Spring's and the County's entertainment scene.

* Boost downtown Silver Spring's economy by putting more customers in Silver Spring restaurants and stores.

* Result in an estimated public profit/benefit to the County and State of $1.6 million annually from the very start, with the State estimated to take in nearly $800,000 in new tax revenue annually.

* Put the Fillmore Music Hall at the old J.C. Penney site, vacant for 18 years and an eyesore at the gateway to the downtown.

* Provide for free and discounted use of the facility by community groups when not used for performances.

* Make possible an exciting synergy between the Fillmore and the American Film Institute and Discovery Communications.
